Ferncurl Snail

Deep beneath the woodland ferns, where last year's leaves are slowly becoming earth, you may find a Ferncurl Snail.

These quiet forest dwellers spend their lives among fiddleheads, fallen leaves, moss, and the damp remains of seasons past. As they travel, their enchanted shells gather the shapes of the ferns growing around them: tightly curled new fronds in spring, broad green leaves through summer, and faint impressions left behind after the ferns have returned to the forest floor.

A Ferncurl Snail may carry many years of the same woodland on its shell.

While they feed among fallen and decaying plants, they help old growth return to the soil. Then each spring, when the first fiddleheads begin pushing through that earth, the snails are there again.

They don't make the forest begin again.

They remember that it can.
